Tips to make sure you are the centre of attention…for the right reasons.
One of most common-sense fashion trends that has gripped the style world over the past few years is new thinking when it comes to accessories. No longer do purse and shoes have to match. And jewelry has gone from simple to funky chunky.
The same holds true for that most special of outfits: Your wedding dress. However, the one thing to remember above all is that your bridal wear is not your costume. Even if you’re planning a non-traditional wedding, you need to be the center of attention for the right reasons, not because everyone’s pointing and laughing. Make sure you’re put together; don’t try to mix and match accessories to try to make a statement. The top models in Milan couldn’t even pull that off.
Jewelry is always a great place to start when you’re talking about accessories for a wedding dress. Taking a cue from the old adage “Something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue,” many brides are lent a piece of family heirloom jewelry,. That’s great, because heirloom jewelry is quite fashionable. Just remember that the simpler the wedding dress, the more bold and bodacious a piece of jewelry can be.
When it comes to shoes, many brides are shying away from ridiculous high heels and sandals that will never be worn again. Also, remember to choose a style that is comfortable as well. Yes, many brides fling off their shoes to dance at the reception, and that’s fine. But don’t forget the long wait for your grand entrance into the ceremony, standing for the entire ceremony (or, needing to get up and down from a kneeling position for Catholic weddings), and then taking pictures immediately afterward. If you can’t see yourself standing for at lest three or four hours in the shoes you’ve picked, you may want to reconsider.
Clutches and purses are also coming into vogue for brides. This classic accessory is an excellent choice to add a pop of color to bridal wear. It may not come down the aisle with you, but it will still give an eye-catching look around the reception. A handbag is also the most functional accessory you can have. You won’t have to rely on your maid of honor to carry around a lipstick or a tissue for you.
Above all, remember to keep it simple. Making your accessories overly complicated can throw your wedding attire out of whack and keep you from being the beautiful bride you deserve to be.
