Should a Wedding DJ take requests?

I think it is important for wedding DJ’s to take requests but at the same time it is important for the DJ to make sure the songs requested are suitable for the crowd. For example, some people asked me to play “I’m on a boat”. I knew this song had a lot of profanity and I did not think it would go well with the Bride or Groom, so I did not play it. The other thing I watch out for is if the song requested is a dance song. At one dance I was asked to play the song “legacy” by Eminem. I knew this song because I am a fan of Eminem but this was a good listening song not a good dancing song so I did not play it. If most of the crowd are enjoying Hip-Hop music and someone requests a heavy metal song, I will probably not play the song at this time. Maybe later in the night when the crowd is leaving, I will be open to play these songs and of course if the Bride and Groom are okay with heavy metal being played. When someone requests a song, I let them know I will play it but if the crowd does not dance to the song, I will have to cut it.
