Wedding morning nutrition: What to eat before you take the big walk

Here are some great ideas for healthy food choices on your wedding day.

Your wedding day can be one of the most stressful occasions of your life. Many brides deal with stress by either not eating or by getting an upset tummy. You certainly don’t want to be sick on your wedding day, nor do you want to take the chance of fainting because of lack of food. Here are some great ideas for healthy food choices on your wedding day.

Eat Light
Eating smaller amounts of food can help keep you feeling full yet won’t bloat you. Choose fresh fruits and whole grain cereals to start your day. An egg will give you some much-needed protein. If you prefer, have a glass of instant breakfast or a protein shake. Avoid eating large meals or heavy foods and don’t use excessive salt.

Eat Small but Healthy Snacks
You may not feel very hungry but you still need to eat. Think about a handful of granola or nuts, a protein bar, or a piece of fresh fruit. Have a bowl of whole grain cereal with some added fruit or eat a blueberry muffin with a glass of milk. Bring a protein bar with to eat before you go down the aisle.

Don’t Pig Out
Sometimes nervous brides will overeat. Avoid the temptation to keep eating by choosing a breakfast meal that is satisfying. Eating a balanced meal will keep your body in balance and you’ll feel better throughout the day.

Drink Water
Dehydration is a common problem with brides so be sure to drink plenty of water. If you like, you may prefer to drink electrolyte water or a sports beverage to help keep you hydrated. Have a friend bring a bottle of water with them to the church.

Eat Lunch
Remember that you’ll be busy all afternoon and you won’t be eating until late in the evening. Even then, you may be too excited to eat very much. To make sure you can last throughout the day; eat a small early breakfast and then a small lunch before you leave for the church.

Avoid Caffeine
Caffeinated beverages can keep you awake, but it’s best to avoid them on your wedding day. These drinks tend to give you a quick burst of energy and can even make you feel jittery and more nervous. Substitute coffee and soda with juice or sports drinks.
