Here are some of the most important questions to ask a makeup artist when going through the interview process.
Your wedding-day makeup is very important and you’ll want to choose a reliable makeup artist. It’s important to interview prospective makeup artists, as you would interview any vendor or service provider. If possible, get the names of some makeup artists from friends or relatives who have experience using them in the past. You’ll also want to take note of any particularly nice-looking makeup at weddings you attend. Always try out the makeup artist with a practice session prior to booking. This should be done months in advance of your wedding. Avoid using friends or others who are inexperienced because you could be unhappy with the results.
Here are some of the most important questions to ask a makeup artist when going through the interview process.
What type of makeup do you use? You’ll want to be sure that you like the makeup line that the artist uses. It shouldn’t run and it should feel good on the face (no breakouts).
Can you work with my regular makeup? You may feel more comfortable wearing your own makeup – will the makeup artist accommodate your request?
Can I view some of your previous work? Professional makeup artists will offer a portfolio with samples of their prior work.
How many times have you done wedding makeup? Makeup for wedding photography is different than simply doing makeup for events such as prom. Inquire as to how many actual weddings the makeup artist has done.
Do you provide touch-up makeup samples? You’ll want to be able to touch-up your makeup throughout the day and night. Be sure that you’ll have some of the same colours to use for touch-ups.
What time are you available? Will the makeup artist be able to accommodate you early in the morning?
Will you be able to do makeup for the bridesmaids? To have a similar look it can be a good idea to have your bridesmaid’s makeup done in a similar style and in coordinating colours as yours.
How long does makeup take? Find out how long it takes to complete your makeup so you can plan accordingly.
Are you available at the church? The reception? Find out whether the makeup artist is able to attend the wedding or reception to refresh your makeup when necessary.
How much makeup services cost. Ask how much the makeup artist charges for the makeup and whether she charges by the hour or per job.
Can I get a sample? Once you’ve narrowed your choices down to a few makeup artists you’ll want to have your makeup done by each of them before making your final decision. Some makeup artists offer a free demo so you can try out their services.
